International and interstate arrivals to Western Australia are estimated to reach 15,000 today after WA’s hard border opened at 12:01 am for the first time in almost 2 years.

There were some emotional scenes as families torn apart by the closing of the WA border to almost all international arrivals reunited.

All arrivals into the state will need to have a valid G2G pass and will have to complete a Rapid Antigen Test within 12 hours of arrival.

They must be double vaccinated if from overseas and triple vaccinated if from interstate and any Australians arriving from overseas who are not vaccinated will need to complete 7 days hotel quarantine.

Premier Mark McGowan hopes the WA tourism industry will see tourist numbers climb after the border reopening with the state government handing out vouchers ranging in value from $150 to $2,200 as part of the “Gifts from Western Australia” campaign.

“When interstate and international travel returns in full on March 3, we want to encourage visitors to experience all we can offer, while ensuring local tourism operators enjoy the benefits.” he said.

The state recorded 2,420 locally acquired cases over night as an outbreak of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 spreads with 22 people in hospital.

Western Australia remains in a strong economic position after heavy stimulus spending throughout the pandemic, “Western Australia’s management of Covid-19 has always focused on saving lives and protecting jobs, with more than $1.6 billion of business assistance provided throughout the pandemic,” said Mr McGowan.

The wait is finally over! There is a little over one week before Australia’s borders reopen to ALL international travellers and for Australian tourism and hospitality businesses, the news couldn’t be more welcome.

To those wishing to travel down under, however, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says, “you must be double-vaccinated.”

Visitors from Singapore, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan have been able to freely travel to Australia for some time now with the rest of the world to join them in being able to travel to Australia quarantine-free from February 21st.

Unvaccinated travellers who hold a valid medical exemption will still be able to come to Australia but must quarantine for the full 14 day period.

The Prime Minister also said that three doses of the vaccine would “never” be necessary as the chief medical officer has advised that two doses will be sufficient.

It is important to note that every Australian state except New South Wales has its own international arrival caps and travellers must make their own enquiries about how many visitors will be allowed into that state.

Meanwhile, Western Australia has updated its Covid-19 protocols for travellers into the state.

The quarantine period will be reduced from 14 to 7 days for eligible interstate and international arrivals, fully-vaccinated direct international arrivals will now be able to quarantine at home and the direct international arrivals cap for Perth will double to 530 people.

Unvaccinated arrivals in WA will be required to spend 14 days in hotel quarantine, while masks must be worn both indoors and outdoors for the entire 14 day period.

The wait is finally over for vaccinated Australians and Permanent Residents!

From November 1st, international travel restrictions will ease and those vaccinated Australians who have been looking forward to international travel will again be allowed to board a plane.

Gone is the 2-week quarantine requirement upon return to the country, with a requirement for all travellers to have had two doses of an approved vaccine.

This is a huge move by the Australian government and foreshadows likely further changes to travel restrictions including welcoming back international students and skilled migrants by the end of the year.

The news comes as Australia exceeded expectations about the country’s initial slow vaccination rate.

As of Tuesday 26th of October, 87.1 per cent of Australians over the age of 16 have had one dose and 74.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison had set a target in the national cabinet reopening plan of a 70 per cent vaccination rate and recently announced in parliament, “The national plan is being achieved and that is achieved by vaccination rates.”

He said it was likely that all international travellers, including tourists would be allowed into Australia by the end of the year.

Do you have plans to migrate to Australia? Do you own a business and are struggling to find staff? Migration to Australia is set to restart following almost two years of border restrictions and the opportunities are stacking up.

There are more skills shortages than ever in Australia and it is an excellent time to start planning a secure and prosperous future in this beautiful country.
